Furyu Dojo Athens is a martial arts club, where the martial arts of Kendo and Iaido –Japanese swordsmanship- are practiced.
Kendo developes self discipline, fighting spirit and a good level of physical condition.
Iaido helps the development of self discipline and self control, develops mind and body coordination and comprises an excellent physical exercise for all ages.
Both are martial arts directly for the samurai era; as such they maintain unchanged the spirit of budo. The cultivation of the budo spirit comprises a primary target of the Furyu Dojo Athens.
If you want to become a member of the Furyu Dojo Athens and practice Iaido and / or Kendo, you may contact the Dojo responsible or to come in one of our training sessions. If you simply want to observe one of our trainings, in Iaido and / or Kendo you are always welcome.

What Furyu means
The meaning of the word Furyu comprises one of the fundamental concepts of classical Japanese aesthetics and the broader conception that is influenced (and influence as well) this aesthetics.
The word Furyu is composed by two kanji characters, of the picture beside; the combination of the kanji characters kaze, wind and nagare, flowing, means a beuaty that can be sensed but not seen; a tangible and at the same moment, intangible elegance. An ephemeral beauty that .can be experienced only at the moment.
It is the same feeling that a practitioner of Iaido and Kendo experiences at the end of his daily training.
Kamon
The Kamon, crest, of Furyu Dojo Athens, is a variation of the Katabami ken Kamon. Is comprised by three leaves of the plant Katabami with Japanese blades, ken, between. At the center there is a small circle with the kanji character TO or Katana.
Dojo code
The Dojo Kun, code, says "Yuki to Meiyo", meaning "Vigor and Honor". It defines the principles that should qualify the members of the Furyu Dojo.
